It was late afternoon. Rue was looking through her giant closet, trying to find a dress to wear to the Academy's dance.

"I have nothing to freaking WEAR." Rue complained.

"Oh, stop complaining." Duck replied. "You could wear a paper bag and look amazing, rue,"

"Easy for you to say; you look adorable."

This was true, Duck thought. "You're the one who picked this outfit for. me."

"True," admitted Rue. "That blue skirt looks amazing. and with the off-white top? Awesome."

Duck smiled. I love the sparkly peace sign on it, too. she thought.

Duck rose from her spot on the bed and walked over to the closet. She rooted through the clothes and fabrics-silk, satin, denim. Finally she felt a material softer than anyone she'd felt so far-it was in the back of the closet, the very last article of clothing.

"Hey Rue?" asked Duck, timidly.

"Mhm?" came the reply from Rue's reflection in the mirror, where she was applying mascara.

"How about-this?" she pulled out the dress with a flourish.

Rue's jaw dropped. "I own that?"

It was a strapless, bloodred little number. The fabric seemed to be pinched along the sides, making little ripples in the tight, soft fabric.

"Well? Try it on!" Duck commanded, throwingthe dress at her. Rue wasted no time in putting on and letting her hair fall down around her shoulders.

"Oh my gosh, Rue! It looks amazing!"

Rue turned to look at herself in the mirror, while her friend searched through her jewelry box.

The dress really was amazing. It came down to about an inch above Rue's knee, and the neckline went ina straight line.

It was sexy, but not toosexy.

Duck fastened a silver necklace on her friend's pale neck; it was a clear diamond droplet. Duck handed Rue the matching earrings and proceded to comb her friends soft black-red hair.

"You're hair's so pretty Rue, I wish mine was more like yours,"

"Your hair's pretty, too, Duck," answered Rue softly.

Duck went to the closet and pulled out a tiny, elegant tiara. There were diamonds and rubies mixed together in a haphazard, yet elegant way. "And...the piece de resitance." she said, dramatically positioning it on her friend's long hair.

"Oh," was all Rue could say.

Duck grinned. "Go!!!! The dance is in fifteen minutes!"

Rue smeared red lipstick on, dusted her eyelids with shadow, and brushed the smallest amount of blush onto her cheeks. Finally, she threw her arms around her friend. "thank you, Duck, thank you!" She grabbed her purse and was out the door-almost.

"Wait-Duck...Aren't you coming?"

Duck shook her head and smiled sadly. "No, no...maybe next time."

"Promise?"

"Yeah, sure."

"Okay. See you later!"

Duck sighed. Rue's so lucky. She always looks beautiful...I'm only beautiful when I'm Princess Tutu...oh well. No point in worrying about it...although, I did promise Rue I'd go next time...maybe next time she can help me get ready!

With that thought, Duck ran off to her own dorm room, to get ready for bed.
For the :devclubtutu: contest!

Wish me luck~

Anyway, about the title, I was watching my all-time favorite movie, Anastasia, while typing this, and I thought that the song "Journey to the Past" fits Rue so well, so I decided to put something about being a princess in there. Hence the tiara. LOL.

Forever yours,
